Very happy with the service from Barry. Aware of my limited admin time to collate the information required and make a decision. Was happy to answer my questions and followed up with anything that was not clear very quickly. Also helpful in presenting the information to me in table form so I could easily see the difference in cost year on year. I renewed all my policies as he made it so straightforward.

Dental Indemnity Insurance FAQs

A claims occurrence policy has lifetime coverage for the incidents that occur during a policy period, regardless of when the claim is reported. A claims-made policy only covers incidents that happen and are reported within the policy’s live timeframe.

The cost of a dental indemnity policy varies based on factors such as your scope of practice, the level of protection you need, and your claims history. As a general guide, All Med Pro premiums can start from around £750 per year (approximately £62.50 per month).
But it’s important to look beyond the headline price. Indemnity is there to help protect your career and reputation, so the value of a policy depends on far more than the premium alone. You should consider what the policy actually includes, what support you’ll receive if a claim or GDC matter arises, and whether the provider offers tools that help reduce the likelihood of claims in the first place.
Not all indemnity providers offer the same level of cover or support services, so identifying these differences early is essential. Our role is to help you understand your needs clearly and ensure you receive guidance that supports you now and in the years ahead.

Contract certain Indemnity refers to dental indemnity insurance that is covered by a contract. This is the type of cover we offer at All Med Pro. The terms of the contract will set out conditions in relation to the maximum amount of cover provided and will detail situations that will not be covered by the contract, unlike discretionary policies where there is no guarantee that a claim will be accepted.

Yes. It is a legal requirement for all dental professionals to have adequate and appropriate indemnity in place for their work. You should obtain and retain a valid certificate of individual indemnity from dental professionals working at your practice.

Put simply, Professional indemnity covers claims made by your clients. Public Liability covers claims from anyone except employees.

Run‑off cover protects you after you stop practising dentistry by responding to any claims that relate to treatment you carried out in the past. It ensures you remain protected even if a patient raises a concern or complaint years after you have left the profession.  Run‑off is only required with claims‑made indemnity policies, because these policies only respond to claims while the policy is active. If you retire, stop practising, or change provider, run‑off keeps your protection in place.
At All Med Pro, we primarily offer claims‑occurrence indemnity, which means run‑off is not required and you are protected for any incident that took place during your cover period, even if a claim is made many years later.
For the claims‑made policies we do offer, run‑off is already built in, providing up to 20 years of protection in situations such as retirement, permanent disability, or death.
The key point is run‑off is only relevant for claims‑made policies, because claims‑occurrence policies do not require run‑off.

If you have had claims or disciplinary action brought against you in the past, All Med Pro may still be able to offer you coverage. We will need to review the specifics of your situation and assess the level of risk involved. The cost of your insurance policy may be higher than it would be for someone without a history of claims or disciplinary action, but we will work with you to find the best possible coverage at a competitive price.

In the event of a claim, our claims process is straightforward and designed to support you during challenging times. We have a designated claims team to guide you through the process. You can find instructions and contact information on our website to initiate the claims process promptly.

Dentists can choose from a range of insurance options to protect their professional and business interests. These include professional indemnity insurance, public liability, employers’ liability, practice contents and equipment cover, business interruption, and cyber insurance. Comprehensive cover ensures protection from legal, financial, and reputational risks associated with running a dental practice.

We offer dedicated support, helping clients understand policy terms, manage renewals, and handle claims efficiently.

You can find dental indemnity insurance here at All Med Pro. We offer bespoke cover for dentists, dental hygienists, therapists, and nurses, all tailored to your needs.

A dental indemnity plan is a type of insurance policy that protects dental professionals against claims made by patients alleging negligence, error, or omission in their professional duties. It covers legal defence costs, compensation payments, and regulatory proceedings. This protection is essential for maintaining GDC compliance and professional peace of mind.

In most cases, dental indemnity insurance premiums are tax deductible as a legitimate business expense, provided the policy relates directly to your professional practice. However, it’s advisable to consult a qualified accountant or tax adviser for specific guidance based on your individual circumstances.

Yes. All Med Pro is fully authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This ensures that all services, advice, and insurance products provided meet strict regulatory standards and offer clients full protection under UK financial services regulations.

Dental indemnity insurance covers a wide range of professional risks, including claims of negligence, errors in treatment, breach of professional duty, and defamation. It also includes legal defence costs, disciplinary hearing representation, loss of documents, and Good Samaritan acts. Some policies may also include run-off cover for work completed prior to retirement or career breaks.

Yes. You can amend your dental indemnity policy at any time to reflect changes in your professional role, working hours, or services provided. Simply contact All Med Pro to update your details and ensure your cover remains accurate and fully compliant with GDC requirements.

GDC indemnity guidance requires all dental professionals to have appropriate indemnity or insurance in place to cover patients who suffer harm. Our contract certain indemnity offering will ensure you, your reputation and the patient are covered in the event of a claim.

No, we do not charge for a replacement unless you require it to be posted. Should you need us to resend your dental indemnity certificate, simply email your dedicated account handler who will forward this on to you.

Yes. Please get in touch with your account handler who will talk you through your options.

Yes. Dental students are typically covered by their university or hospital’s indemnity, but they should confirm the specifics of their coverage. While some may need to arrange their own indemnity for specific roles or electives, student coverage is often provided through their training institution.

This depends entirely on the type of cover your employer has in place. It’s vital you double check with your employer to ensure you are adequately covered.

If you’re a dentist, our standard limit of indemnity offering is £10,000,000. If you’re a Dental Care Professional, our standard limit of indemnity offering is £5,000,000.

Yes, our Apex Membership Package (which is included as standard as part of our dental indemnity offering) covers regulatory matters such as GDC investigations, complaints and/or hearings.

Our Apex Membership Package includes cover for regulatory matters such as GDC investigations, complaints and/or hearings as well as dento-legal support, employment disputes, contract disputes, reputation management and a 24/7 helpline.

Some providers (DDOs) offer discretionary indemnity, meaning they choose whether to assist you at claim time. GDC guidance specifically warns dentists to understand the risks of discretionary cover and consider whether contractual certainty is better for their situation.

How All Med Pro differs:
All Med Pro offers contract-certain indemnity, which means the insurer is legally obligated to deal with claims within the policy terms — not left to discretion. This eliminates the “will they/won’t they?” worry at the worst possible moment.

This depends on whether your cover is occurrence-based or claims-made.

  • Occurrence: covers you even if a claim is made years later.
  • Claims made: you need run-off cover when you leave.
The BDA notes this distinction is critical because run-off can be costly.

All Med Pro’s approach:
All Med Pro offers both options, giving flexibility depending on your career stage and budget. However, we predominantly provide dentists with claims occurrence coverage.

GDC investigations are stressful, complex, and statistically less likely to result in erasure when dentists have representation. GDC guidance explicitly stresses the importance of indemnity that includes fitness-to-practise legal support.

All Med Pro’s difference:
All Med Pro includes regulatory and criminal defence support plus access to specialist dento-legal advisors when needed. We provide a 24/7 advice line and are here to support you with any advice required.

Low-cost, claims-made or basic policies may be attractive initially, but could require expensive run-off or offer limited legal support. GDC guidance stresses your cover must be appropriate for the full scope of your practice, not just the cheapest option.

All Med Pro’s focus:
Transparent product structure (12- or 18-month terms, multi-year price security options) helps avoid surprise cost jumps and reward loyalty.

Not all products offer PR/crisis protection. GDC-related issues, complaints, or clinical incidents can significantly affect your reputation.

All Med Pro:
Offers reputation protection services (PR experts) to help manage public exposure during incidents.

Some providers have limited hours or slower access to dento-legal advisors.

All Med Pro:
24/7 helpline and immediate access to expert advisory support.

Certain policies penalise or decline late notifications, which can happen easily if a complaint escalates months later.

All Med Pro:
Includes accidental late-notification acceptance, reducing risk of cover being rejected due to timing technicalities

This varies widely. Many indemnity providers cover clinical issues but not employment or contractual disputes.

All Med Pro:
Includes contract & employment dispute representation, giving broader protection for real-world practice scenarios.

Associates often change roles, move practices, locum, or work between multiple settings. Claims‑occurrence is the safest and simplest structure for them because:
  • All Med Pro offers claims‑occurrence indemnity, meaning if the incident happened while covered, the policy responds even years later.
  • This means no run‑off cover is required when leaving, retiring, switching providers, or taking a career break.
  • Additionally, we do not need to be notified if you move practices or if you work at multiple locations.
For associates, this removes the financial and administrative burden of run‑off that is otherwise required under claims‑made policies.
  • Claims‑occurrence dental indemnity that protects locums for any incident during the policy period. Claims are covered even if made years later. No run‑off cover is required, which is ideal for dentists working across multiple practices or taking breaks.
  • Non‑discretionary, contract‑certain insurance, giving locums guaranteed protection rather than discretionary support. This ensures consistent claims handling wherever you work.
  • Full dento‑legal and regulatory defence, including support for GDC investigations, hearings, and criminal or regulatory matters linked to patient treatment.
  • £10,000,000 limit of indemnity as standard for every dentist, supporting locums in both routine and high‑risk clinical situation
General liability (often called public liability) typically protects the practice against things like:
  • Slips, trips, falls
  • Property damage
  • Injuries on the premises
This type of policy does not normally cover claims arising from clinical treatment or the actions of self‑employed associates.
Vicarious liability is a legal principle where the practice owner can be held responsible for the clinical negligence of associates, hygienists, therapists, or other clinicians, even if they are self‑employed.
A non‑delegable duty of care means that a dental practice remains legally responsible for a patient’s safety, even if the treatment is carried out by another clinician such as an associate, hygienist, therapist, or locum.
Even when the clinician is self‑employed rather than an employee, the practice can still be held liable if a patient suffers harm as a result of their treatment.
UK courts have confirmed that this duty exists because patients generally believe they are being treated by the practice itself, not by an independent contractor working within it.
Why This Matters for Dental Practices
  • The duty of care cannot be delegated, even through contracts or self‑employed arrangements.
  • Patients see the practice as the responsible provider of their treatment journey.
  • Claims can therefore be brought against the practice owner, not just the treating clinician.
